Deluxe Corp. has elected Chicago business leader Cheryl Mayberry McKissack as board chair. She replaces Martyn Redgrave, who will continue to serve as a director, according a release dated Aug. 27.

Mayberry McKissack, who's been on the board since 2000, is the first black woman to be board chair in Deluxe's 105-year history.

The move was effective Aug. 22.

Mayberry McKissack has nearly two decades of CEO experience at Nia Enterprises, a Chicago-based marketing, entrepreneurial business and digital consulting firm she founded in 2000. She also was CEO of Ebony Media Operations and chief operating officer and president of digital for Johnson Publishing Co.

For years Deluxe was known for making personal and business checks. More recently the company has moved into offering an array of financial services to small businesses, which is something Mayberry McKissack wants to highlight as board chair.

"I'm the representative of the board," she said. "One of the best-kept secrets is we offer a lot of services besides checks and we and we want to get the word out."
